Scottish Youth Parliament Elections

Added on 30 May 2023

The Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) is the democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people. Around 160 young people aged 14 – 25 are elected every two years to represent every part of Scotland and campaign for positive change.

Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) listen to and recognise the issues that are most important to young people in every community across the country and ensure decision-makers listen to them.

Every member of the Scottish Youth Parliament is elected through an open and democratic election. The next elections will be in November 2023.

Applications are open from 15th May to 31st July 2023.

If you are interested in standing for election, the Scottish Youth Parliament are holding information sessions:

The SYP Info Evenings are hourly sessions held between May and July 2023 for young people aged 14 - 25 who are interested in standing in the Scottish Youth Parliament elections to become a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYP), youth workers, and anyone else supporting a young person to take part in the SYP elections. The session will cover what the Scottish Youth Parliament is, what we do, why we do it, and how we achieve our mission. It will give participants the fundamental background information they need to know about SYP before standing for election. It will also give an overview of the election process, what to expect, and what future participation in SYP could look like - whether attendees are elected as an MSYP or not.

Young people can sign up to attend these sessions at: https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/SYPInfoEvening/
